White and Silver 25 year Anniversary Cake!

Hello all! I have been MIA, lots going on! But! I have been making cakes, just slacking on the posting of them 🙂

I made a cake for my friends parents surprise 25th year anniversary! She wanted it to be all silver and white, which is so classy looking and I loved the idea. All of the silver was sprayed with my Duff airbrush machine in metallic silver.

IMG_4853

A nice big 25 right in front to remind everyone of their 25 years of marriage!

IMG_4857

I’ve never made a bow like this, but decided to give it a shot since Jasmin really liked it and it came out just like I had hoped!

You basically just cut strips of fondant, fold them in half, dab water on the end to keep them together, cut the end into a V, then place them on their sides to dry overnight. I sprayed them the following day, and assembled them using just water. Most tutorials used frosting to keep it all together but I didn’t like how visible it was. Water did fine.

  IMG_4855

I am truly obsessed with my pearl bead mold. It makes them all so perfect!!! I use it ALOT now.

   IMG_4858

IMG_4859

I’m so glad I got my camera working again for this cake! It was the biggest cake I have done in a while since the Barbie cake (http://wp.me/p3N0qO-A6 click there to see that one, its still my favorite)

IMG_4861

Ta-Da! Hope everyone likes it, and I hope to be blogging more!

Homemade Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I’ve been on hiatus for a little bit, but I have returned 🙂 I haven’t had any cakes to make and I’m thinking our weather has had a lot to do with that. Its been non stop snow. Every single day!!! That’s Chicago for you. Then, the 2 cakes I did have to make… I couldn’t get my camera to work! It kept saying my memory card was locked. I was so confused. Then today I look at the memory card itself and see this tiny lock and unlock switch! Problem solved!

Due to my camera functioning again, I was like “COOKIES”. My Mom and I were watching the show Kelsey’s Essentials on the Cooking Channel and she made these amazing Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies! SO EASY TO MAKE TOO! It’s seriously stupid easy!

*This is Kelseys recipe and I take zero credit for any of this besides the Ghirardelli Chocolate part ;)*

This is her recipe copy and pasted!

Ingrediants

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 2 overripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure  vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips. I didn’t have these on hand, but what I did have is an entire bag of Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate squares! I crushed them up and used those instead!

IMG_4805

Preheat oven to 350!

Use Bananas that have brown spots on them, they are the most ripe and will taste best in these cookies!

IMG_4806

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Mix in the bananas and egg and mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl. Mix in the vanilla.

IMG_4808

In a separate large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. Mix until thoroughly combined.

IMG_4809

IMG_4811

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix just until combined. It will be a wet cookie dough (for some reason mine was a little thicker then what the recipe describes. It just resulted in a fatter cookie!)

IMG_4812

I had to unwrap about 15 squares. It was easiest to crush them in the little packaging with my fingers then open it and dump them into a measuring cup. I used the entire bag of squares!

IMG_4813

I used about 1 1/2 cups of crushed chocolate! The more the better if you ask me. So finally, stir in the chocolate chips.

IMG_4814

I used my cookie scooper to place them on the ungreased baking sheet (what’s nice about the recipe having shortening is that we don’t have to grease a cookie sheet!) Each cookie sheet should have 2 cookies! Pop

IMG_4815

Bake just until golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn and swap the cookie sheets on each rack for even cooking. Cool on a wire rack.

IMG_4818

YUMMMMMMM!

IMG_4819

IMG_4820

IMG_4821

These were AMAZING right out of the oven! The banana taste is subtle yet totally there. It reminded me of banana bread with chocolate chips in it! So good and simple!

Breakfast Cups!

These are the breakfast cups that Maria made for our Annual Girls Grab Bag party! Check that out here: Grab Bag Post!

I seriously fell in love with these little cups of breakfast heaven. They have bacon in them… so yeah, that’s obviously enough to love right there. I got the recipe off of Pinterest. Here is a link to the original recipe: http://www.marthastewart.com/330179/bacon-egg-and-toast-cups and look at that! It’s by Martha Stewart! Love that bitch!

*NOTE: This recipe is for 6 cups! I made 4! I originally started out making 3, then my sister wanted one so I made 4 instead*

Alright lets get started!

Heres a visual on how they’re made!

You will need the following items:

  1. 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  2. 8 slices white sandwich bread (in my case, 4)
  3. 6 slices bacon (in my case, 4)
  4. 6 large eggs (in my case, 4)
  5. Coarse salt and ground pepper

Preheat oven to 375, grease the muffin cups with your butter

IMG_4793

IMG_4794

Again, I began this adventure making 3, then ended up making 4 🙂

IMG_4795

Use the top of a big glass, at least 4 inches in diameter to cut the circles. The original recipe says to use a 4 inch cookie cutter but not everyone does (but of course I do lol) but this is how Maria did it at our party and I thought it was a good idea!

IMG_4796

Flatten the bread down

IMG_4797

Make your bacon as you regularly would. Do not cook till crisp. Cook them until they’re medium, right before they’re about to start crisping up.
IMG_4798

The original recipe says to cut the circle in half and then put the bread into the muffin cups, but I found no reason for that. Leave the circles of bread whole, and press it into the muffin cups. Any bread that rips, just fill in the holes with more flatten bread pieces. I think used a silicone kitchen brush to lightly brush the remaining melted butter on to the bread.

IMG_4799

Add your bacon to the muffin cups

IMG_4800

Crack an egg into each cup, over the bacon. Sprinkle salt and pepper on top, and throw them in the oven for about 25-30 minutes. The original recipe said 15-20 but at that point the eggs were still a little too runny for my taste. I did almost 30 minutes.

IMG_4801

How yummy do these look?!

IMG_4802

The bacon gets to just the right amount of crispiness after its done in the oven!

IMG_4803

These are really easy to make! And theyre seriously just so good! You can bite into them or you can eat them with a fork, either way is just as enjoyable 🙂

Tortilla Pizzas in the Toaster Oven!

IMG_4685

I love making these little pizzas. I love pizza in general and I could eat it everyday! Even when its bad its good! But these are GOOOOOD! Flour tortillas make awesome mini thin crust pizzas.

Here are the ingredients I use:

  1. Flour tortillas
  2. pizza sauce
  3. cheese
  4. oregano
  5. red pepper flakes
  6. garlic powder
  7. and parsley

I always start by popping the flour tortillas into the toaster oven first to let them crisp up a little bit! I usually set the toaster oven at 325, and pop these in for a couple minutes by themselves! Sometimes they blow up into balloons inside the toaster oven but once you take them out they deflate. Or I take scissors are cut a little strip into the tortilla to help prevent it from blowing up!

Then I take them out of the oven, use a spoon to put the pizza sauce on and spread it around.

Then I add the cheese. I like to use Monterey Jack and Sharp Cheddar. Then I sprinkle garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and oregano on top and pop them in the toaster oven!

IMG_4680

Two flour tortillas fit nicely in our toaster oven. I keep them in there on 325 until I feel like they’re crispy enough and the cheese is nicely melted and bubbling.

 IMG_4684

I like to cut up fresh parsley and sprinkle it on top of the pizzas once I pull them out of the toaster oven! They add color and a nice taste.

   IMG_4688

Yummmmm! The ends are always nice and crispy!

IMG_4686

These are seriously so easy to make and they’re really delicious! They come in handy if you’re ever just craving pizza! I’ve made them using plain old marinara sauce before and they’re really good like that to! Enjoy!

Pittsburgh Penguins Cake

Pittsburgh Penguins Cake!

I made this on Saturday, it’s a 10″ chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I made the penguin earlier in the week and let me just say… it was more difficult then I expected! But that was really the only thing that had to be made for the cake.

IMG_4673

I will admit this.. although mayeb I shouldn’t… but I originally cut out the words “Happy Birthday Nick!”. Then right before I put the letters on the cake I was like “Let me just double check that!” and turns out it was Mike not Nick! Thank GOD I  double checked! That would’ve been terrible!

IMG_4676

IMG_4675

I used my awesome pearl mold for this cake too! I seriously love that thing! This cake was obviously for a guy and the black pearls looked manly still 🙂 It just makes the cake look so much more professional I feel like!

IMG_4674

Short post! But that was my only weekend cake to do! And now I surprisingly have none booked! Which is kind of nice.. I like to take a break every now and then!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Mason Jar Hot Chocolates mmmm

Yesterday my girlfriends and I had a couples Christmas party… 5 couples total! We did a grab bag which is always fun and the gifts were all so perfect. The gift I decided (I’d include Mike but I’d be lying if I said he had any part in the gift besides agreeing that it was cute lol) to give was a little in home movie date night! $10 red box giftcard, 4 old school Coca-Cola bottles, 2 boxes of movie candy, all inside of a bucket of popcorn!

I really wanted to make something small for the girls. I’m always thinking about things to make that I can blog about! After scrolling through Pinterest I decided I’d make them: Mason Jar Hot Chocolates!

My blog should really be called “Everything I Make is Inspired From Pinterest” because that’s seriously my entire life. I can scroll and pin ALL DAY LONG!

I didn’t follow any exact tutorial for this… I just kind of picked from a bunch of them and made mine!

IMG_4670

IMG_4634

I cut out these circles on my eCraft Machine to make the tops cute

AGAIN… I HATE THE COLOR GREEN. There was no way I was including green in this so red black and white was what I went with.

IMG_4649

IMG_4639

All my supplies!

The spoons and the chocolate morsels are for mixing spoons! Which I just love the idea of! So when you make this, you use the chocolate mixing spoon to mix everything up and the chocolate melts into the Hot Chocolate and makes it even more chocolaty!! Amazing!

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate chocolate!

I picked out 4 bottles of original Baileys because lets be honest it’s delicious.

IMG_4642

IMG_4647

Get some plastic spoons…

IMG_4648

Melt some semi-sweet chocolate morsels…

IMG_4651

Put it on the spoon, and if you want to make it even cuter then drizzle some colored chocolate on top! I used Wiltons Red Candy Melts! Since I always have it on hand.

IMG_4657

Then individually wrap all of them in cake pop wrappers!

IMG_4645

IMG_4646

I used 2 packets of Swiss Miss per Mason jar! Each packet requires 3/4 cup water or milk added but really who only wants 3/4 cup of hot chocolate?! Not me!

IMG_4659

Add marshmallows then tightly close the Mason Jar… don’t want them getting hard!

IMG_4661

Then I taped the Baileys and the mixing spoons to the sides of the mason jar because I was doing this solo and didn’t have anyone to help me hold them and tie at the same time. You probably don’t need to tape them if you have someone helping you!

IMG_4666

I wrote little instructions on the top, it reads:

Pour contents into large mug, Add 1 1/2 cups of hot water or milk, Use spoon with chocolate to stir, Add Baileys and enjoy!

IMG_4663

And here they are all complete!

Barbie Banner Making and More!

For Makenzies 2nd Birthday, Heather asked if it was possible to make a “Happy Birthday!” banner for under $30. UMMM YES!!! Everyone’s first instinct is to go buy stuff like this off Etsy or similar online stores but I was able to make a banner for Heather for a whopping $4.00 and I’m not kidding. The banners were going on the cake table and presents table! Check out my blog post on the Barbie Cake I made for Makenzies Second Birthday! Pictures of the cake are also at the bottom of this post 🙂

The cardstock paper was on sale at Michael’s… 6 sheets for $1.00, so I got as much as I could. I had ribbon, some pink paper on hand, and of course my trusty eCraft!

I love this machine so much :)
This machine is amazing. It’s like a cricut but its mat less. I was able to hook it up to my computer (with the downloaded eCraft software), I found some SVG files of Barbie heads and got to work!

IMG_4328

These were free images and so so so cute! I cut out 4 large Barbie heads

IMG_4329

Then I cut out the letters I needed. ANY font on Microsoft Word can be used on the eCraft as well. I like to use the fonts that are boxy and thick, since its easier to cut out on the machine.

IMG_4331

Then I put all the letters on a white background.

IMG_4332

Then put them all on a sheet of colored pink paper. I alternated it so it went chevron print, then the other print etc. I don’t know why but I always have to double everything on paper. I feel like everything looks cuter with a border! It makes it look more professional!

Also, doing square instead of round helps to save paper.

IMG_4336

IMG_4337

That’s my trusty paper-cutter! It measures out paper perfectly and makes straight nice lines!

IMG_4338

 IMG_4345

I recruited my mom and Mike for banner holding duty -lol- I made the banner then realized adding the “2nd” made it too long! So the end result doesn’t have the “2nd” and we separated “Happy Birthday!” for the cake table, and “Makenzie” for the present table!

   IMG_4341

I tape the back of each sheet to the ribbon to hold them all in place.

 IMG_4339

IMG_4346

And here’s the final result!

IMG_4505

So girly!

 IMG_4526

IMG_4545

The banner just brings it all together! And dresses up the tables nicely!

IMG_4482

the banners worked out perfectly for both tables!

Everything else came out so amazing for Makenzies Birthday party too! Heather spent a lot of time planning and making all of the little details!

Adorable party favors Heather made!

These are all cute little Hershey kiss party favors!

IMG_4487

Heather made the card box! she simply wrapped a box in pink paper, added a Barbie head, and some number 2’s that I cut out on my eCraft machine for her!

IMG_4488

Half of the tables got these center pieces. These are foam boxes covered in pink and black paper.

IMG_4489

And the other half of the tables had ballons with the same Barbie confetti and Hershey kisses scattered!

IMG_4490

 IMG_4557

The friend table!

IMG_4585

the princess girl eating a lollipop!

IMG_4562

Anthony does this thing at every party where he fills up a box with candy and when I say fill… I mean it. This box was up to the very top with all kinds of candy! And then he just launches it in the air and the kids go CRAZY!

IMG_4571

Daddy helping the birthday girl!

IMG_4626

All of my girlfriends and I 🙂 I love us! We are the Elite 8 -lol-

I’m a Barbie girl in a Birthday world!!

This cake has been on my mind since my friend Heather asked if I could make Makenzies 2nd Birthday cake. Of course I was so excited to make it and even more thrilled when Heather said the theme was Vintage Barbie. UM YES! I love doing cute themed cakes that are different from anything I’ve ever done.

It was a 3 tiered cake. 12 inch, 10 inch, 8 inch. Top cake was red velvet with cream cheese frosting, the center cake was chocolate with chocolate frosting, and the bottom cake was yellow with vanilla frosting!

IMG_4516

I had to get a picture by the cake 😉

IMG_4461

Heres what I started with! A blank canvas!

IMG_4475

Here is the sketch I came up with for the cake! Heather had pinned a few cakes she liked to Makenzie’s 2nd Birthday Board, so I pulled ideas from all of them to come up with this!

IMG_4463

First of all… let me just say… I use to HAND ROLL EACH AND EVERY PEARL! Can you even believe that?! What was I thinking?! I found this pearl mold by Wilton at Michaels for like $8.00 so I bought it! SO EASY! I love this thing already and know its gonna get a lot of use.

IMG_4465

IMG_4467

I cut out so many circles for the bottom cake just in case. Always need extra!

For the bows, I made them a little different then I typically would but that’s because I wanted them to look extra dainty and girly! I ended up using only 1 Barbie head, I was going to do 5 going around the middle cake but decided it was too much! Those went unused.

 IMG_4468

IMG_4469

I especially loved the center tier! At first I only did 1 strand of pearls but added a second strand shortly after this photo!

IMG_4477

IMG_4492

IMG_4493

IMG_4494

IMG_4482

Loved the cake table! It all looked so cute. Everything Heather bought and made looked awesome! (I made the Happy Birthday Banner and will have a blog post on that up shortly!)

IMG_4486

IMG_4549

How cute are they?!

IMG_4552

Then the cake had to be cut! As sad as that was for me 😉

IMG_4555

IMG_4556

The aftermath: not so pretty!

IMG_4477

IMG_4508

Finally I was able to get a cute picture of the birthday girl!! How adorable is her entire outfit?!

Annual Girls Grab Bag :)

Every year the girls and I do a Christmas Grab Bag! We do a $40 dirty Santa Grab Bag and we ALSO do a $10 dirty Santa Gag Gift! The gag gift is always the most fun. The gifts for that are hilarious! Some are so bad and naughty I feel weird listing them on my blog -lol- just this alone would put all 8 of us on Santas Bad List!!!!

We decided to make this years grab bag festivity into a brunch on Sunday! December is so crazy and it was hard to find a day all of us could definitely get together therefore this worked out perfectly and really who doesnt love everything that comes with doing a brunch!?

IMG_4456

MIMOSA’S! YUM

4 of us brought OJ, the other 4 brought the champagne! My sister made a Peach Orange Juice which was extra amazing. She just halved a bottle of OJ and filled it back up with Peach Nector.

IMG_4455

^Do you see those cups?!^

You have no idea how wonderful these truly were. My friend Maria made them. I searched Pinterest and found the recipe:

http://www.marthastewart.com/330179/bacon-egg-and-toast-cups

Looks like its from Martha Stewart which I dont doubt for a second! At first I thought the egg was gonna be all runny and I’m not into that, but when I bit into it and it was more of a hard boiled egg/eggs-that-are-in-a-Mcdonalds-Breakfast-Sandwich kind of consistency… I was in love!!! And bacon…. don’t even get me started!

So simple too! Line greased muffin tins with smashed down bread… lay a half cooked piece of bacon in there, crack an egg over the bacon, pop into oven for 20-25 minutes. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

IMG_4427

Becca made this delicious French Toast with a rich buttery maple syrup sauce on the bottom!

IMG_4425

Anne made pancakes. I thought this was the extent of them until…

IMG_4426

She added a raspberry to each one! Then it really was game on for these babies!!

  IMG_4424

My sister made some bacon, green onion, ranch, and cheese crescent roll ups!

yummo

And I made s’mores dip, you can find that on my blog post with the recipe here: http://glitterbatterandothermatters.com/2013/12/10/smores-dip/

Some things I didnt get a picture of: Heathers hash brown casserole and Sam’s fruit dip!

But all in all I think it’s safe to say that we as a whole… DO NOT mess around when it comes to get togethers and food. We always out do ourselves 😉

IMG_4437

Ummmmm lets talk about these Michael Kors flats! So cute, I’d wear them!!

IMG_4435 IMG_4434

socks

Becca got all of us Christmas socks… which were a huge hit because even at 24 and 25 years old we all enjoy the idea of having matching things and all wearing the same stuff -lol-

I didn’t get pictures of our grab bag but items included:

All kinds of jewerly, scarves, socks, candles, hair stuff, nighties, scrapbook supplies (who do you think gifted that?! Me of course haha always encouraging the creativity! I just thought it was so neat… Michaels sold these packages for scrapbooking that included a 12×12 scrapbook, stickers, paper etc!). So much good stuff! Now the gag gifts… I will leave those to your imagination!!

Merry Christmas!!!!

S’mores Dip!

YES. SMORES DIP. You read that correctly. I love s’mores. For our girl’s grab bag I made this dip and it was a hit. Then, I brought the little bit of leftovers home and I reheated it in the microwave and it was a hit with myself all over again. So delicious, I have no regrets.

THIS: http://www.keyingredient.com/recipes/517468033/smore-crack-dip/  is the exact recipe I followed!

Lets begin:

  • Box of Graham crackers
  • Bag of mini marshmallows
  • Bag of semi sweet chocolate
  • 2-3 tablespoons of milk
  • Shallow oven safe dish

IMG_4421

IMG_4422

Put 1 cup of the marshmallows, the whole bag of chocolate, and 3 tablespoons of milk into a medium sauce pan over low and melt. Stir the entire time. Once all the marshmallows are melted down youre good! Grab an over safe shallow dish and spread this melted mixture of chocolatey goodness on the bottom of the dish.

IMG_4423

MMMMM!

Now, cover it in marshmallows and pop it in the oven, really at any temperature, until the marshmallows are as brown as want them to be!

If your chocolate you poured in is still hot then but the broiler on to speed it up! I made the chocolate mixture, and poured it into the dish prior to going by my girlfriends house so when I reheated it, I just put the oven on bake so it heated up the chocolate again to!

S'mores Dip!

S’mores Dip!

I went with this much toastiness 🙂

IMG_4457

Break up some graham crackers for the ultimate dipping experience.

yummo

OH YES!!!! How amazing does that look?! It tastes just as amazing and JUST like s’mores!

This dip is so easy and it was a fun dessert to make and eat as well. The kids liked it too! Especially the marshmallow part. It’s very rich but so amazingggggg! Go make some now for the holidays!!
