Fondant.. either you like it or you don’t!
Kids on the otherhands ALWAYS like it. They even like to eat the hardened fondant accents to these plain smooth frosted cakes. Last weekend, when I made the fondant covered Marvin the Martian cake, my friend Becca later told me that her sisters husbands nieces ate Marvin entirely. I thought that was hilarious… just picturing little Marvin the Martian being consumed. I always wondered if people ate the fondant decorations and its turns out if theres kids they most likely do.
I tried putting these in order from first cake I’ve made to the most recent. I started doing cakes that were ONLY smooth frosted with some fondant here and there. Working with fondant comes later in your cake decorating skills. I use to despise it. I always hoped no one ever wanted a fondant cake. Now its my bestie and I love working with it.
This Mickey Mouse cake was the first one I ever did for an actual event. For Cameron.. my good friends Sam and Dannys son 🙂 . It was for his 1st birthday party! I was so nervous because it was this cake and like 48 cupcakes.
Mickey was made with a Wilton Cake Pan from Michaels. Its cute because it can easily be made into Minnie too.
This was also a cake for Sam. I used my Mom’s heart shaped cake pans for this one.
This was my first cake with a real fondant figure. Snoopy and Woodstock on his belly, with a fondant roof.
I NEVER put cakes in the fridge (unless theres perishables in the center but I don’t really do centers with any… I’m more of a decorator not a gourmet cake baker) but it was so HOT the day I made this cake that it needed to stiffen up just a bit.
This was for my bosses birthday. He LOVES almond Snickers (go try one theyre so so so good!) so thats what is in the center of this cake, as well as chunks of it on top. Um.. YUM!
Sliced almonds on the side.
Oh look there I am 🙂
I LOVE HELLO KITTY!
And I LOVE the person this was for! My friend Beccas beautiful little sister Grace! She is seriously the coolest, funniest, most polite little girl on the entire planet and I’m sure of that. So when Becca requested this I immediately went and bought the Wilton Cake pan for it that I was waiting for a reason to buy! I’d love to make this cake covered in fondant so if anyone ever wants that please ask because I need to make it!
My girlfriend Dom requested this bunny cake for her cute little Grandpas birthday which was around Easter time. The outside is wrapped in Kit Kats and then the top is filled with Egg M&M’s.
Oh yea and the center was TIE DIE!!! So fun!
Dom took this awesome picture of it cut!
And there they are.. my collection of unfondanted (is that a word? I like it!) cakes!
And of course a picture of my babies to leave you guys feeling happy and amazed by their cuteness!
(I mean really, Benny is in a Polo and Tootsie has a bow in her hair! If that doesnt cheer you up just a little then I’m sorry)
🙂
